I’ve been in your shoes and I built this community to support the needs that traditional care often overlooks.
Hi, I’m Dr. Jessica Sanchez-Alfaro. I’m a family physician, board-certified in obesity medicine—and I’m also someone who’s had bariatric surgery.
I know how it feels when your weight impacts your health, your confidence, and your daily life, not just as a doctor, but as someone who’s lived it. That experience fuels my mission: to help women over 40 navigate the long-term journey after surgery with compassion, clarity, and science-backed guidance.
Back in 2015, everything looked good on the outside. I had a fulfilling medical career, a beautiful family, and a stable home. But inside, I was exhausted. I was carrying 80 extra pounds, missing out on life, and struggling silently.
Then came the moment that changed everything: I couldn’t fit in a roller coaster seat next to my daughter. Her tears broke my heart, and opened my eyes. Something had to change.
When my doctor suggested bariatric surgery, I was scared. The stigma, the risk, the fear of judgment, it was all there. But I knew this wasn’t about appearances. My body needed help. And for the first time, I chose myself.
The surgery changed my life. Not just physically, but mentally and emotionally.
For the first time, I didn’t feel broken. I understood that my biology had been working against me, and that I didn’t fail. The hunger that once ruled my life? Gone.
But life kept moving. COVID came. Then perimenopause. Then weight regain. That’s when I realized: information alone isn’t enough. We need a plan that works in real life, for real women.
If you’re in your 40s, 50s, or 60s, you’ve likely realized it’s not just about what you eat or how much you move. Your body is changing, your hormones are shifting, and your energy doesn’t always match your intentions.
